Why the two conferences that used to be called the Wales and Campbell Conferences?

Shifted to the east and west conferences in 1994 and I begin to see up to 98 hockey. Also why the divisions named Patrick, Adams, Norris and Smythe?

The conferences and divisions were named after these people: Wales Conference (now the Eastern Division): Prince Edward of Wales (later King Edward VIII) Campbell Conference (Now the Western Division): Clarence Campbell Patrick Division: Patrick Lester (Lester Patrick Trophy given for outstanding service to hockey in the U.S.) Adams Division: Charles Adams Norris Division: James Norris (James Norris Trophy given to the defense of the year) Smythe Division: Conn Smythe (as Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP)
