Mizuno Irons - Are They Really Worth It?

Mizuno irons come in both cast and forged versions.

Cast clubs are basically made from a stainless steel alloy and made from a mould into which the steel alloy is poured. It is then allowed to cool and the mould is broken leaving you with the club head.

Cast clubs are basically made from a stainless steel alloy and made from a mould into which the steel alloy is poured. It is then allowed to cool and the mould is broken leaving you with the club head.

Forged clubs on the other hand are made from one piece of metal-Mizuno make theirs from mild carbon steel and the clubhead is then hammered into shape after heating.

The advantage of the forged club boils down to consistency even though it is cheaper to manufacture cast clubs. The consistency/inconsistency problem arises from the trapping of air bubbles in the casting process which can lead to a different reaction off the face of the club.

It is for this reason also that the sound of a cast iron club and a forged club striking the ball can be appreciably different. And for the accomplished golfer this sound difference is striking. This goes back again to the air bubbles trapped in the casting process.

The value of the forged club in the short game is also crucial because of the greater feel and feedback that you get from the forged Mizuno iron. And the look and feel of a forged iron versus a cast iron is of great pleasure to many golfers.

Yes the forged is more expensive... but if you are serious about your golf and want to be the best you can then the longevity of the well crafted Mizuno irons will give you enormous pleasure and satisfaction over many, many years.
