Speed Baseball
How do I measure my pitching speed in baseball?

I want to calculate how fast I can throw a baseball. I want to use the following formula to get it,

s=d/t

But Im confuse with the units of the numbers. if the distance is 60ft, and the time is 2 seconds. what would be the speed in miles per hour.

A useful conversion to memorize is 60 mph = 88 fps. Then you won't need to do all that miles to feet etc. conversion cited in the first answer.

Thus, for v = s = d/t, you know the distance d = 60 ft. to home plate. Have someone time your pitches from release until the catcher catches your offering. Divide the time into the distance d/t = v for the velocity of each pitch.

Do this several times for each kind of pitch you throw (fast, slider, curve, knuckle, etc.). Add up the velocities v for each pitch and divide by the number of pitches N to get the average velocity V for each kind. Then you'll know on average how fast you pitch each kind of pitch.

In your example, for just one throw, v = d/t = 60/2 = 30 fps. To change that into mph we have v = 30 fps//88 fps/60 mph = 30*60/88 = 20 plus mph.

Just remember 60 mph = 88 fps, you'll be using that a lot in HS physics.
